The Fakawi is a challenging bicycle race that brings together over 2,000 racers on a 85 mile journey across the swamps of South Florida. Jimi “Fakawi”, the organizer of the race, asks me each and every year to come up with a new brand concept for the challenging race.
The Fakawi celebrates their 10 year anniversary in 2019. To celibate such a milestone the goal was to create new, bold and exciting design of elements that speak to who The Fakawi is and how they have evolved over time. To achieve this, strong typography and textured components are utilized to add dimension and roughness to the overall feel. The silhouette of the Everglades is used on the front of the jersey and from that, the “10” badge for the shirt design was created by simplifying the original image.
